Home - Pause For A Hoarse Horse (1971)

"To these ears, this is a very underrated album, though I must confess to a certain bias on my part since I really do love this album... Anyway, this, the debut album by UK outfit Home is a quiet gem, one that reflects and refracts subtle shades and colors in the setting sun, rather than dazzling the listener with pyrotechnic displays. Laurie Wisefield's guitar is well suited to the material here and fans of early Wishbone Ash will probably find much to enjoy. Over the years, I've seen a lot of comments about this lp that describe it as country rock and very US influenced which is true to a degree, but I think that the real similarities lie with UK counterparts like Help Yourself, Man (it makes perfect sense that Clive John of Man is featured on this album), Family (John Weider also guests here), The Dog That Bit People, or even a folkier Andwella's Dream..." - prabbit - ProgArchives

Frumpy - Frumpy 2 (1971)

"Frumpy’s second album is fine example of early 70’s German progressive and hard rock mixture and excellent addition to prog collections. Four long tracks, with sound dominated by Jean-Jacques Kravetz’s keyboard chords and soloing, good bass playing and energetic and divers drumming, long jamming and obligatory changes of tempo and volume. Guitar is presented right on time to remember that there is a guitar player, while Inga Rumpf’s cracked hoarse loud and shouting voice is in perfect tune with keyboards and guitar sound and almost looks like keyboards or guitar originated. After two very good songs, there comes a third, “Take Care of Illusion”, the best to my criteria, while fourth is mostly wah- wah guitar based jam, with Bach-like part near the end. Recommended!" - cedo-ProgArchives

Frumpy - All Will Be Changed (1970)

"For those of you who were there when this album was released, FRUMPY was one of the classic rock bands with its distinctive vocalist Inga Rumpf. I was just 10 years old at that time and by the time I knew the band it was 5 years late already through their legendary hit “Singing Song”. From this song it was quite obvious that the unique quality of the band was basically at its lead singer, especially with her unique timbre. The story started when four musicians were all members of Irishman O' Brian-Docker's folkband The City Preachers, which was founded in Hamburg in 1965."

Arco Iris - Los Elementales (1977)

"Certainly one of the best fusion albums ever. Coincidentaly with the departure of Gustavo Santaolalla (who's influence in the group was strong enough to keep them from the developement of their true style) they left the etnic and folkloric sound for a complete jazz- rock fusion venture with LOS ELEMENTALES as their prime opus. Ara Tokatlian shows himself as a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and composer, sadly, they moved to the States where they found other musical interests (film scores, etc. ) and so, the follow ups are a blend of jazz, rock and South American folk music more elaborated but with a clear lack of the feel that you find in LOS ELEMENTALES." - feayes-ProgArchives

Art Bears - Hopes And Fears (1978)

"ART BEARS are a branch of Henry COW and include vocalist extraordinaire Dagmar KRAUSE, Chris CUTLER on percussion, and Fred FRITH on guitar/ violin/keyboards/ etc. They were longtime members of the seminal English radical political avant-garde art rock band Henry COW. Their music is very high level progressive/experimental rock, with shades of ambient and electronic thrown in. Like much RIO-influenced music, it's not so much prog, as experimental, "rehearsal intensive" rock.
Their three albums are all equal in quality and are only recommended to those who like UNIVERS ZERO, Henry COW, or MAGMA etc. Try "Winter Songs" or "The World as it is Today" (they come together on CD from Wayside) then get "Hopes and Fears" if you like them. "Hopes and Fears" is one of the most melodic RIO releases and sounds somewhat more COW-like the other albums. Adventurous listeners would do well to find all of ART BEARS' releases." - ProgArchives

Le Orme - Collage (1971)

"LE ORME is a prime example of a band drastically changing their sound, in this case for the better. Back in 1969 they released their first album, "Ad Gloriam", which finds the band exploring pop/psychedelia. Realizing that style of music was quickly going out of fashion, thanks to the rise of prog rock, they decided to go prog, and the results is "Collage", which is the first in a series of albums that would serve them well for their next three releases.." - Proghead-ProgArchives

Kraan - Let It Out (1975)

" I first ran across this album when I found a copy of it for 50 cents at a local record shop back in the mid 1970's. I thought the cover art was really cool and of course I bought it.
Upon my first listening I was hooked! I loved this sound which was jazzy, but not too laid back. And also so powerful and beat driven, without being overpowering. Crisp, clean guitar riffs excuted perfectly are the order of the day with KRAAN. Minimal vocals are also present, but as with all KRAAN releases, the music is the main focus.
I was already a fan of krautrock having albums by CAN and NEU in my collection,so this find was a welcome addition.
Outstanding cuts include side one opener BANDITS IN THE WOODS and the title track LET IT OUT.
I still have that original fifty cent copy of LET IT OUT on PASSPORT label and after about 25 years it still plays perfectly!" - bob x

Echolyn - Mei (2002)

"Strongly influenced by GENTLE GIANT, this outstanding american band has enough musicianship to deliver original, powerful, intricate, yet beautiful prog rock. The music is full of details, either in strong passages or in the quietest acoustic moods. The GG like Fender Rhoades piano brings the music to a higher atmosphere on the quiet parts. Fabulous acoustic guitar is present all the time, to break the power stream at the right time - always. Theres nothing more to say. This is essencial american prog rock, and "As The World" is their masterpiece." - ProgArchives

Queen - News Of The World (1977)

"News of the World is a Queen album released on October 28, 1977.
Containing such hit songs as "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" (which are both commonly heard at sporting events) and "Spread Your Wings", the album went four times platinum in the United States alone and is tied with 1980's The Game as Queen's best American selling album.
The album is considered one of Queen's strongest albums, albeit a bit of an abrupt departure from the band's progressive mysticism into a much more spontaneous recording. Brian May confirmed this on In the Studio with Redbeard which devoted an entire episode to News of the World.
The album was once again produced by the band members themselves and was recorded at Sarm West and Wessex Studios, England and co-produced and engineered by Mike Stone." - Wikipedia
