Bram Stoker - Heavy Rock Spectacular (1972)

"Who were BRAM STOKER and the mysterious T. Brodson who composed all the tracks? This enigmatic 1972 release was recorded for Woolworths generic Windmill label and recorded presumably by session players to cash in on the early seventies success of bands like BLACK SABBATH,ATOMIC ROOSTER and BLACK WIDOW. The BRAM STOKER moniker evokes macabre gothic atmospheres, and so does their music with tracks like "Blitz" conjuring up a doom laden sound. The LP "Heavy Rock Spectacular" is a true lost pearl of original prog, dominated by moody Hammond organ that owes much to keith Emerson's influence. There are NICE overtones too with their own "Fingals Cave" whilst the sounds on "Poltergeist" seem to come straight from a gothic 'Hammer Horror'." - Piccadilly

  2. Bram Stoker was formed in the summer of 1969 by Hammond organist Tony Bronsdon, guitarist Pete Ballam and drummer Rob Haines who, as the founding members of Bram Stoker, then recruited bass guitarist Jon Bavin, all of whom were based in their south coast home town of Bournemouth, England, UK.

Guitarist Pete Ballam and drummer Rob Haines had previously been working together in their own local band for two years prior to Bram Stoker being formed and had already formed a tight bond, and in meeting Hammond organist Tony Bronsdon they found a kindred spirit - young, enthusiastic and inspired by the progressive trend of the time.

  4. Tony Bronsdon is the Hammond player; he wrote many songs himself but co-wrote many also, as all four band members. The band broke up in the mid 70's but have very recently re-formed. 3 new members have joined Tony; they are working on excellent, new renditions of some of the original material and also writing a bunch of fresh and inspired material -as we speak. 2010 will be a Pheonix year for Bram Stoker. They have become updated; however the current strains are keeping the magic that the four, original members created so well, 40 years ago.
