The Alan Parsons Project - Tales Of Mystery And Imagination (1975)

As unlikely as the idea seems today to use the suspense-filled stories of Edgar Allan Poe as the basis for an album of rock tunes, listeners in the 1970s--who were barraged with such high-flown concepts during the heyday of prog-rock--turned the record into a major hit. The Project actually scored a Top 40 hit with "(The System of) Doctor Tarr and Professor Feather." Thanks to FM radio overplay, however, "The Raven" is probably the album's best-known track today. The 1987 CD version of "ToMaI" differs somewhat from the original vinyl. Parsons dropped in synthesizer parts to modernize the album, and added an opening recitation by Orson Welles. But the integrity of the original is maintained well enough, and the album remains a classic excuse to dim the lights, pour a glass of sherry (amontillado, natch), and break out the headphones. --Daniel Durchholz

Dream Theater - Images And Words (1992)

Images and Words is the second album by progressive metal band Dream Theater.
It is the first album on which Dream Theater's current singer, James LaBrie, appears, and is considered a seminal release in the progressive metal genre.
"Pull Me Under" received substantial airplay on radio stations and MTV, and to this day remains the band's biggest hit. The album itself is also the most commercially successful of all Dream Theater's albums, attaining gold record certification in the U.S. and platinum in Japan.
The album is also notable as being the only studio album by the group (until Octavarium, almost 15 years later) not to include at least one instrumental track.

It was recorded in the summer of 1988 at Kajem/Victory Studios in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, and is the only Dream Theater album to feature Charlie Dominici on vocals. Genesis - A Trick Of The Tail (1976)

A Trick of the Tail is the first studio album by progressive rock band Genesis following the mid-1975 departure of original vocalist Peter Gabriel, and was released in 1976.
The album surprised both critics and the public, who were convinced the band was doomed without Gabriel. A Trick of the Tail performed strongly, reaching #3 in the UK and becoming the band's first US hit album, reaching #31. Most surprising was drummer Phil Collins' graduation to the position of lead vocalist. Genesis in fact had held lengthy auditions for a new singer and had to deal with a lot of dubious Peter Gabriel-wannabes turning up in outlandish costumes. Collins had to teach the potential replacements the songs but the rest of Genesis said Collins sounded better than the people auditioning. Collins refused to step down from his drum kit but after the last audition failed, Collins tried singing "Squonk" and the band decided to go with Collins, who had sung backup for Gabriel on most of their earlier albums.

Camel - The Snow Goose (1975)

"The Snow Goose is the third album released by the band Camel in 1975. The success of the White Rider suite (Which was based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings) that appeared on their previous album, Mirage, inspired the group to write more novel-inspired conceptual suites. The band gathered and all members proposed several novels on which their next album would be based on. Keyboardist Peter Bardens suggested Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, and some songs were written before the idea was trashed. Another book by the same writer (Steppenwolf) was also suggested, but this concept proved unworkable for the band. Finally, bassist Doug Ferguson recommended the group to have the next album based on Paul Gallico's novel The Snow Goose. The album reached silver status in 1981." - Wikipedia

Gentle Giant - Civilian (1980)

"Civilian is an album by British Progressive Rock band Gentle Giant which was released in 1980. At this point a near total change of style was in evidence with only a trace of the original verve present. The band lasted only a short time after this outing. This album also marks the return to Columbia Records (the first album on this famous label since the 1973 release Octopus) in the U.S. and Canada. It was cut in the L.A. suburb of Van Nuys in 1979 with former Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick." - Wikipedia

Giant - Last Of The Runaways (1989)

Imagine Foreigner's Lou Gramm and Mick Jones rolled into one with the guitar playing about a thousand times better... enter Dann Huff of Giant. This is their debut album from 1989. Genesis - Live (1973)

"Genesis Live is the first live album released by progressive rock group Genesis. The band in fact had no plan at this time to release a live album, but the decision was made on the part of their label, Charisma Records, to release Genesis Live as a budget-priced title to mark time while the band recorded the album Selling England by the Pound in mid-1973. The result became a boon for Genesis' most devoted fans, as this album represented the only legitimately released concert recording of the band (with Peter Gabriel on vocals) for 25 years.
All songs by Tony Banks/Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel/Steve Hackett/Mike Rutherford except "The Knife", by Tony Banks/Peter Gabriel/Anthony Phillips/Mike Rutherford. The second guitar solo in "The Knife" has been adapted by Steve Hackett, and the drum parts differ from the original version, a change probably made by Phil Collins."

Brand X - X Communication (1992)

"Unlike GENESIS, when Phil COLLINS left BRAND X the level and commitment to musical creativity and originality did not die. In fact I enjoy the post Phil COLLINS era BRAND X as much as that with him. "X-Communication" features the line-up of Percy Jones, John Goodsall and Frank Katz who blend rock, jazz, funk and fusion into this masterful recording. This powerful trio get into some pretty wild musical moments with heavy instrumental workouts and complex performances. "X-Communication" showcases the fretless bass action of Percy Jones with the complex rhythms of Frank Katz and the agile fingerings of john Goodsall. Without a question "X-Communication" is a magnificent album and is highly recommended to all fans of progressive rock." - loserboy-ProgArchives

The Alan Parsons Project - Eve (1979)

Eve is a PROGRESSIVE ROCK album by The Alan Parsons Project. It was released in 1979. Along with Pyramid, it is widely regarded as a mediocre album between 1977's I Robot and the Project's successes of the 1980's. Eve's focus is woman and her effect on men, and it is notable as the only Project album to feature female lead vocalists (Clare Torry and Lesley Duncan). Alan had worked with Clare on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. The opening instrumental "Lucifer" and the poppy "Damned If I Do" were both minor hits.

The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn Of A Friendly Card (1980)

The Turn of a Friendly Card is a progressive rock album by The Alan Parsons Project (their fifth), released in 1980.
